2014 Mini Paceman
November 10, 2012. The MINI brand is once again combining the expansion of its model range with a foray into a new vehicle class. Indeed, the MINI Paceman is the first Sports Activity Coupé in the premium small and compact segment. Its powerful, dynamically stretched coupé lines and hallmark MINI go-kart feeling team up with the exclusive ambience of its variable-usage interior to make the MINI Paceman a pioneer in the urban environment - and one whose character is vividly imbued with the innovative and inimitable style of the British premium brand. With its two doors and large tailgate, plus two full-size individual rear seats, the seventh model in the MINI family complements the elegant sportiness of its proportions with a new rendering of the familiar MINI interior.

Design: powerful stature, sporty and elegant coupé lines.

The innovative concept of a compact Sports Activity Coupé is expressed in an exterior design that faithfully embodies the MINI Paceman's multifaceted driving properties within the template of the established MINI design language. The front end exudes muscularity and presence, while dynamically sweeping lines and powerfully curved surfaces lace the flanks of the car with sporting elegance. The coupé-style roof, swooping downwards towards the rear, sits almost seamlessly atop the passenger compartment and its distinctive contours fit neatly into the coupé mould. The most eye-catching new feature of the rear end are the taillights which, in a first for MINI, feature a horizontal design.

Interior: exclusive ambience, impressive variability.

The MINI Paceman has been designed squarely as a four-seater. Sports seats for the driver and front passenger are included as standard, and the pair of individual seats in the rear offer impressive shoulder room and headroom, outstanding lateral support and exceptional comfort. The side window controls, meanwhile, are integrated into the prominently three-dimensional door trim. The high-opening tailgate of the MINI Paceman and its low boot sill allow the luggage area to be accessed in comfort. Load capacity stands at 330 litres, increasing to 1,080 litres when the rear seat backrests are folded down.

The drivetrain: powerful engines, optional ALL4 all-wheel-drive system.

The MINI Paceman is available in four powerful and efficient petrol and diesel variants from launch, ranging from the MINI Cooper D Paceman (82 kW/112 hp) and MINI Cooper Paceman (90 kW/122 hp) to the MINI Cooper SD Paceman (105 kW/143 hp) and MINI Cooper S Paceman (135 kW/184 hp). Plans are in place to add a MINI John Cooper Works Paceman variant to the range in due course. The Sports Activity Coupé is the second model - after the MINI Countryman - which customers can order with the ALL4 all-wheel-drive system as an option.

The chassis: a new take on the go-kart feeling.

The MINI Paceman's cutting-edge chassis - consisting of a MacPherson spring strut front axle and forged cross members in tandem with a multi-link rear axle - underpins its hallmark MINI agility. The new model comes as standard with lowered sports suspension and DSC (Dynamic Stability Control). Electric Power Steering with standard Servotronic function likewise enhances the ever-present go-kart feeling on board the MINI Paceman.

Comprehensive safety equipment and high-quality comfort-enhancing features.

The high torsional rigidity of the MINI Paceman's body plays an important role in both its agile handling and its impressive passive safety. Its standard-fitted safety arsenal includes front and side airbags, as well as side curtain airbags for both rows of seats. All seats are fitted with three-point inertia-reel seat belts. Front seat occupants will also find belt tensioners and belt force limiters, while in the rear ISOFIX child seat attachments are in place should they be required.

High-quality standard equipment - such as air conditioning, electrically adjustable exterior mirrors, the Centre Rail and the radio MINI CD with AUX-IN socket - underlines the car's premium character. The range of options, meanwhile, includes a sports leather steering wheel (standard in the MINI Cooper S Paceman and MINI Cooper SD Paceman) with optional multifunction buttons and cruise control, heated seats, an electrically operated glass roof, Comfort Access, xenon headlights, Adaptive Headlights and Park Distance Control. Added to which, MINI Paceman customers can also make use of innovative MINI Connected on-board functions such as web radio, Facebook and Twitter usage, Dynamic Music, Driving Excitement, Mission Control and the MINIMALISM Analyser.

The first Sports Activity Coupé in the premium compact segment. The design.

The MINI Paceman has a character all of its own, while displaying clear ties to the innovative and inimitable style of the British premium brand. The seventh model in the MINI family takes its cues from the needs of modern target groups, who appreciate its confident appearance as much as the infectious driving fun on offer at the wheel. With its two doors and large tailgate, plus two full-size individual rear seats, the MINI Paceman complements the elegant sportiness of its proportions with a new rendering of the familiar MINI interior.

The innovative concept of a compact Sports Activity Coupé is expressed in a body design that combines dynamically stretched proportions with a muscular stance. This faithful embodiment of the MINI Paceman's multifaceted driving properties is achieved within the template of the established MINI design language. The car's inspirational sporting credentials are immediately clear, as is the potential for broadening its range of use with the addition of ALL4 permanent all-wheel drive.

The body: powerful stature, elegantly sporty coupé lines.

Traditional MINI design cues, such as the black bordering on the lower edge of the body, the side indicator surround on the diagonal link between the A-pillar and front wheel arch, and the clear three-level split of body, passenger compartment and roof, point - in a distinctive Paceman way - to their MINI family ties. The front end, for example, exudes power and presence thanks to its large, distinctively shaped headlights, strikingly sculptured bonnet and upright hexagonal radiator grille, which is framed on the MINI Paceman by a particularly broad chrome surround.

The fresh and individual character of the MINI Paceman comes across most prominently when the car is viewed from the side. Dynamically sweeping lines and powerfully curved surfaces imbue the car's appearance with sporting elegance. The coupé-style roof, swooping downwards towards the rear, sits almost seamlessly atop the passenger compartment. Its distinctive contours fit neatly into the coupé mould, the roofline flowing into the standard rear spoiler. The steadily rising shoulderline and gently downward-sloping roofline create side window surfaces that taper towards the rear, emphasising the wedge shape of the silhouette particularly clearly. The long doors each have a high character line, which connects the front and rear wheel arches and gives the body a lower-slung appearance. The extremely muscular rear wheel arches underline the MINI Paceman's sporting credentials, including its ability to send a portion of its engine power through the rear wheels.

The most eye-catching new feature of the rear end are the taillights which, in a first for MINI, display a horizontal design. As with the slim and sloping coupé-style rear window, the chrome strip below it and the horizontal creases on the tailgate and rear apron, the form of the lights further accentuates the car's width. The concentric segmentation of the light sources in the rear lights is very much in keeping with brand tradition. The same can be said of the rear as a whole, which increases in width as it heads towards the road, drawing attention to the car's powerful stance. The MINI Paceman is the first member of the brand's line-up to be identified by a rear nameplate.

Eight exterior paint shades are available for the MINI Paceman, including the new Brilliant Copper, Blazing Red and - exclusively for the MINI Paceman - Starlight Blue variants. The roof and exterior mirror caps can be painted in body colour, white or black.

Interior: exclusive ambience, impressive versatility.

A model-specific interpretation of traditional MINI design principles also shapes the look of the interior. The extensive use of horizontal elements champions the cause of sporting elegance. For example, the distinctive door ellipses have an extremely shallow yet prominently three-dimensional form and extend back beyond the B-pillars into the rear compartment. The ellipses border the armrests and their integrated door pull recesses. If the optional lighting package is specified, the door ellipses are bathed in an atmospheric light.

Added to which, for the first time in a MINI the side window controls are sited in the door panels. A full control panel on the driver's side includes switches for both front side windows and the exterior mirror adjustment. Moving the window controls away from the centre console also optimises access to the large storage compartment below it.

Matt-finished, ring-shaped borders in Carbon Black emphasise the form of the Centre Speedo and the two air vents positioned alongside it. Decorative inner rings in high-gloss black or optional chrome are integrated as standard into the surrounds for the air vents and Centre Speedo. If the Chrome Line Interior option is specified, these rings come in chrome. The CD/DVD and air conditioning control panel and the toggle switches are positioned below the Centre Speedo and bordered in a contrasting colour. Here, the matt black surfaces dovetail appealingly with the chromed controls.

The MINI Paceman has been designed squarely as a four-seater. The slightly raised seating position in the front of the car provides the driver and front passenger with an excellent view over the road. This effect is enhanced by the slightly forward-leaning arrangement of the familiar Centre Speedo. The pair of individual seats in the rear offer impressive shoulder room and headroom, outstanding lateral support and exceptional comfort, while cut-outs in the front seat backrests optimise rear legroom. The lounge character of the rear compartment is further enhanced by the armrests in the side panels. These are integrated into a circular rear trim element, which matches the colour and material of the seats. The individual seat layout is highlighted by two mouldings in the load compartment cover which extend out from immediately behind the head restraints into the rear.

If the optional lighting package is specified, the Centre Rail storage and attachment system is indirectly illuminated along with the door ellipses. Like the Centre Rail, sports seats for the driver and front passenger are part of standard specification for the MINI Paceman. As an alternative to the standard Diagonal Track cloth upholstery, customers can specify the Hot Cross cloth/leather combination, Gravity leather trim or exclusive Lounge leather variant. The interior colour shade Carbon Black blends as standard with a matching Colour Line and interior surfaces in Dark Silver (MINI Cooper Paceman, MINI Cooper D Paceman) or Dark Anthracite (MINI Cooper S Paceman, MINI Cooper SD Paceman). A bespoke selection of upholstery colours, interior surfaces, Colour Lines and other design features offers a wide range of individualisation options for the interior.

A new take on the go-kart feeling. The drivetrain, power transfer and chassis.

Four variants of the MINI Paceman will be available from launch. Customers will have a choice of two petrol engines and a pair of diesel units - all with four cylinders and their zesty power delivery accompanied by remarkably low fuel consumption and emissions. The MINIMALISM technology fitted as standard on all models includes Brake Energy Regeneration, the need-based operation of ancillary components, Electric Power Steering and the Gear Shift Indicator which, like the Auto Start/Stop function, works in tandem with the manual gearbox.

All the powerplants link up as standard with a six-speed manual gearbox, although a six-speed automatic is available as an option. Power can be channelled through the front wheels only, in line with MINI tradition, or - in the MINI Cooper S Paceman, MINI Cooper SD Paceman and MINI Cooper D Paceman - distributed via the MINI ALL4 all-wheel-drive system. The standard specification of all MINI Paceman variants also includes lowered sports suspension. Plans are in place to add a MINI John Cooper Works Paceman variant to the range in due course.

The petrol engines: impressively powerful, remarkably efficient.

A shared feature of the 1.6-litre petrol engines powering the MINI Cooper S Paceman and MINI Cooper Paceman is fully variable valve management. Based on the BMW Group's VALVETRONIC technology, this system optimises both the engine's responses and its efficiency. Under the bonnet of the MINI Cooper S Paceman, it joins forces with a twin-scroll turbocharger and direct injection to generate maximum output of 135 kW/184 hp at 5,500 rpm. Plus, peak torque of 240 Newton metres (177 lb-ft) is on tap between 1,600 and 5,000 rpm. An overboost function is at the driver's disposal to provide particularly powerful bursts of acceleration, increasing torque to as much as 260 Newton metres (192 lb-ft) for a short time between 1,700 and 4,500 rpm. All of which enables the MINI Cooper S Paceman to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h / 62 mph in 7.5 seconds (automatic: 7.8 seconds) on the way to a top speed of 217 km/h / 135 mph (212 km/h / 132 mph). Despite this smile-inducing acceleration, average fuel economy in the EU test cycle stands at an impressive 6.1 (7.1) litres per 100 kilometres / 46.3 (39.8) mpg imp and CO2 emissions are just 143 (166) grams per kilometre.

Developing maximum output of 90 kW/122 hp at 6,000 rpm and with peak torque of 160 Newton metres (118 lb-ft) available from 4,250 rpm, the engine powering the MINI Cooper Paceman also has what it takes to fuel plenty of sporty driving fun. The 0-100 km/h / 62 mph dash is all over in 10.4 seconds (automatic: 11.5 seconds) and top speed stands at 192 km/h / 119 mph (184 km/h / 114 mph). Average fuel consumption for the MINI Cooper Paceman in the EU test cycle is 6.0 (7.2) litres per 100 kilometres / 47.1 (39.2) mpg imp, while CO2 emissions come in at 140 (168) grams per kilometre.

The diesel engines: forceful under power, understated at the pumps.

A turbocharger with variable turbine geometry and common-rail direct injection allows the diesel powerplants driving the MINI Cooper SD Paceman and MINI Cooper D Paceman to offer both instantaneous pulling power and exceptionally low fuel consumption. What's more, the engines' aluminium construction allows weight to be kept impressively low and smoothness to take a front seat. The engine fitted in the MINI Cooper SD Paceman produces maximum output of 105 kW/143 hp at 4,000 rpm from its 2.0-litre displacement. Maximum torque of 305 Newton metres (225 lb-ft) can be accessed between 1,750 and 2,700 rpm. The resultant power delivery allows the MINI Cooper SD Paceman to sprint from rest to 100 km/h / 62 mph in 9.2 seconds (automatic: 9.4 seconds) and hands it a top speed of 200 (197) km/h / 124 (122) mph. The impressive efficiency of the more powerful of the two diesel engines is reflected in average fuel consumption in the EU test cycle of 4.6 (5.7) litres per 100 kilometres / 61.4 (49.6) mpg imp and CO2 emissions of 122 (150) grams per kilometre.

The MINI Cooper D Paceman also stands out with its superb balance of brawn and economy. Its diesel powerplant has 1.6-litre displacement, rising to 2.0 litres if the optional automatic gearbox is specified. Maximum output stands at 82 kW/112 hp and is available from 4,000 rpm, while peak torque of 270 Newton metres (199 lb-ft) is served up between 1,750 and 2,250 rpm. The MINI Cooper D Paceman accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h / 62 mph in 10.8 seconds (automatic: 11.2 seconds) on the way to a top speed of 187 (182) km/h / 116 (113) mph. The exemplary efficiency of this variant is headlined by average fuel consumption in the EU test cycle of 4.4 (5.6) litres per 100 kilometres / 64.2 (50.4) mpg imp and CO2 emissions of 115 (149) grams per kilometre.

Six-speed automatic gearbox, Sport Button and ALL4 all-wheel drive on the options list.

The MINI Paceman is equipped as standard with a six-speed manual gearbox, while a six-speed automatic - complete with the Steptronic function enabling manual gearshifts - is available as an option for all models. In the MINI Cooper S Paceman and MINI Cooper SD Paceman, the automatic gearbox also comes with shift paddles attached to the steering wheel; these can be ordered as an option for all other models.

Extra helpings of driving fun can be summoned with a touch of the optional Sport Button, which tweaks the engine's responses and the power assistance provided by the steering. The MINI Cooper S Paceman's engine also gains a particularly sporting soundtrack, including a distinctive note at idle. In models ordered with the automatic gearbox, the Sport Button can be used to activate a specially tuned sport program which makes various adjustments, including adding extra zip to the gear changes.

Three of the four model variants can be equipped with ALL4 from the launch of the compact Sports Activity Coupé. The permanent all-wheel-drive system is available for the MINI Cooper S Paceman, MINI Cooper SD Paceman and MINI Cooper D Paceman and can be combined with either the manual gearbox or the automatic.

The ALL4 system uses an electromagnetic centre differential to distribute drive seamlessly between the front and rear axles. In normal driving situations ALL4 diverts up to 50 per cent of the engine's power to the rear wheels, rising to as much as 100 per cent in extreme conditions, such as on ice and snow-covered surfaces. The control electronics of the MINI ALL4 system are integrated directly into the DSC management unit, enabling drive to be distributed between the front and rear axle as and when required - and in a matter of milliseconds. This set-up optimises fuel economy and ensures the car displays maximum agility in the face of fluctuating dynamic requirements, while delivering surefooted, and thus typically MINI, handling characteristics.

Cutting-edge chassis technology provides a new take on the go-kart feeling.

The construction of the MINI Paceman's chassis - consisting of a MacPherson spring strut front axle and forged cross members in tandem with a multi-link rear axle - underpins its hallmark MINI agility. A feature particular to the MINI Paceman is the sporty set-up of the lowered suspension, although the car can also be ordered with regular suspension and ride height as a no-cost option. The precise and efficient Electric Power Steering likewise enhances the ever-present go-kart feeling on board the MINI Paceman. The steering system's standard Servotronic function provides speed-sensitive power assistance.

The likewise standard-fitted DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) system comprises ABS anti-lock brakes, Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD), Cornering Brake Control (CBC), Brake Assist and Hill Assist. The MINI Cooper S Paceman, MINI Cooper SD Paceman and MINI Cooper D Paceman with ALL4 also come with DTC (Dynamic Traction Control) mode, which allows controlled slip through the driven wheels to ease moving off on loose sand or deep snow. When the stability system is deactivated (in DSC Off mode) an electronic locking function for the front axle differential comes into play. In tight corners it brakes a spinning wheel as required to enhance handling. Known as Electronic Differential Lock Control (EDLC), this system enhances the car's traction without adversely affecting its steering properties. DTC and EDLC are also available for the MINI Cooper Paceman and MINI Cooper D Paceman as an option.

Standard specification also includes light-alloy wheels - in 16-inch format for the MINI Cooper Paceman and MINI Cooper D Paceman and 17-inch guise for the MINI Cooper S Paceman and MINI Cooper SD Paceman. 18-inch and 19-inch light-alloy wheels can be ordered as an option for all model variants.

Versatility and safety whenever you need it. The body and occupant protection.

Sporting flair, practicality and rugged versatility are the central traits of the MINI Paceman's character. The body of the compact Sports Activity Coupé provides an instant showcase for these headline features and backs them up with attributes such as excellent aerodynamic efficiency, enviable stability and generous levels of on-board space. The MINI Paceman's safety concept is rooted in the principles governing all the brand's models and, as with the MINI Countryman, delivers impressive and far-reaching occupant protection.

The MINI Paceman sees the British premium brand once again providing the key to a new vehicle segment. It is the second MINI model (after the Countryman) whose exterior length exceeds four metres. Its sporty yet elegant proportions are the result of a body length of 4,109 millimetres (MINI Cooper S Paceman and MINI Cooper SD Paceman: 4,115 millimetres), a width of 1,786 millimetres and a height of 1,518 millimetres (MINI Cooper S Paceman and MINI Cooper SD Paceman: 1,522 millimetres). A 2,595-millimetre wheelbase provides the ideal basis for a spacious interior allowing a variety of uses.

The interior: lounge ambience for four and storage space just the way you need it.

This versatility, along with the high-quality lounge ambience of the interior, is a defining feature of the MINI Paceman. A slightly raised seating position gives the driver and front passenger an excellent view over the road, while the long doors provide particularly easy entry and exit. The two rear seats are also easily reached, and once seated the rear passengers enjoy generous levels of space, outstanding lateral support and comfort that reaches beyond the norm.

The sports seats for the driver and front passenger feature height adjustment as standard, while the individual rear seat arrangement enables the two rear passengers to adjust their seats to provide personalised comfort. The rear seat backrests can be folded down separately, allowing boot capacity to grow from 330 to as much as 1,080 litres. And the MINI Paceman's high-opening tailgate - the release lever for which is integrated into the MINI badge - and low boot sill allow the luggage area to be accessed in comfort. A rear carrier preparation and trailer coupling with removable ball head elevate the car's functional appeal and load-carrying talents another notch. Also available as an option is a storage package, which includes features such as a front cup holder attachment, 12-volt power sockets for the rear compartment and luggage area, rear cup holders, bag holders in the luggage area and additional function elements for the standard-fitted Centre Rail.

The storage and attachment system complements the extensive stowage areas in the door trim and centre console. It runs from just aft of the gearshift or selector lever on the centre console to its finishing point between the front seats. The second section of the Centre Rail is found between the rear seats and extends up to the partition between the rear compartment and boot area. This makes it easier to climb over from one of the two seats to the other. A single-section Centre Rail extending between both rows of seats can be ordered as an option, offering even greater flexibility when it comes to the positioning of standard and optional function elements.

Strong body structure and comprehensive safety equipment.

The high torsional rigidity of the MINI Paceman's body plays an important role in both its agile handling and its impressive passive safety. In the event of a crash, extremely robust load-path structures, precisely defined deformation zones and an exceptionally strong passenger compartment are on hand to keep the impact energy away from the car's occupants and ensure maximum protection for all those on board. Rising up high, the front end not only lends the MINI Paceman a particularly powerful stance, it meets the stipulations of current pedestrian protection legislation. Large deformation zones are designed to reduce the risk of injury in the event of a collision with a pedestrian or cyclist.

Like the MINI Countryman, which passed the Euro NCAP crash test with the maximum five-star rating, the MINI Paceman's standard-fitted safety arsenal includes front and side airbags, as well as side curtain airbags for both rows of seats. All seats are fitted with three-point inertia-reel seat belts. Front seat occupants will also find belt tensioners and belt force limiters, while in the rear ISOFIX child seat attachments are in place should they be required. All the restraint systems are controlled by central safety electronics to ensure they are activated as required in different types of collision. A run-flat indicator is fitted as standard, while run-flat tyres can be specified as an option.

Individuality on demand. Equipment and accessories.

The extensive standard equipment of the MINI Paceman also plays a role in delivering the intoxicating driving fun offered by the premium compact Sports Activity Coupé, while the array of optional extras and bespoke range of accessories offer customers a wide variety of possibilities when it comes to the detailed individualisation of their cars.

The MINI Paceman takes the lead in its segment when it comes to communications and entertainment functions. Advanced interface technology allows the extensive integration of smartphones and music players into the car. And the newest member of the MINI family can also be ordered with the full range of MINI Connected features, which is regularly expanded with the addition of further innovations.

High-quality and individual: extensive standard equipment, innovative options.

The high-quality standard equipment of the MINI Paceman reflects the premium character of the brand in terms of comfort and functionality. It offers features such as electric windows, remote central locking, air conditioning, electrically adjustable exterior mirrors, the Centre Rail and model-specific door sill lettering.

On-board comfort is further enhanced by options including automatic climate control, heated seats and an armrest for the driver and front passenger. Also available as an option is Comfort Access, which allows owners to open the driver's door and start the engine without taking the car key out of their pocket. The MINI Paceman can also be specified with Park Distance Control, which makes reversing manoeuvres that much easier. Sensors integrated into the rear apron calculate the distance to the closest obstacle and the system uses this data to alert the driver accordingly by means of audible and visual warnings.

Customers can quench their desire for more sunlight and fresh air inside the MINI Paceman by ordering the optional panoramic glass roof. This two-piece glass roof has a pop-up function at both the front and the rear, and comes with a sliding roof liner. An automatic dimming function is available for the rear-view mirror and exterior mirrors, while a leather steering wheel or sports leather steering wheel can be ordered as an alternative to the standard item. Both options also add leather trim for the gearshift lever or selector lever. The sports leather steering wheel (standard in the MINI Cooper S Paceman and MINI Cooper SD Paceman) can also be specified with multifunction buttons to operate the telephone and audio functions as well as activate and deactivate the cruise control system.

The ambient lighting system (part of the optional light package) adds a special allure to the interior of the MINI Paceman. This system uses indirect illumination to give a colour accent to the door centre panel and Centre Rail storage surface during night driving. The colour of the light can be varied - using a toggle switch - between a warm orange and a sporty blue, just as the mood takes you.

For optimum visibility and striking looks: xenon headlights, Adaptive Headlights, black headlights.

The xenon low and main-beam headlights available as an option for the MINI Paceman provide particularly clear illumination of the road ahead. Adaptive Headlights are also available to further enhance visibility. This technology adjusts the beam angle of the headlights to the path of each corner by tracking the steering angle of the car. In addition, it offers variable light distribution, which adapts the beam of light to the speed of the car. Customers selecting the xenon headlights and Adaptive Headlights options can also specify the car's headlights with black housing, which lends the front end of the MINI Paceman even greater visual impact.

The MINI Paceman can be ordered additionally with front foglamps, and the likewise optional rain sensor adjusts the frequency of the wipers to the intensity of precipitation landing on the windscreen. The windscreen is also heated, which gives the driver another useful tool with which to combat adverse weather conditions.

Entertainment programme and communications options on demand.

The selection of entertainment and communications options in the MINI Paceman can also be tailored precisely to individual requirements. The standard radio MINI CD audio system comes with five loudspeakers, an MP3-compatible CD player and an AUX-IN socket. Among the features included as part of the optional radio MINI Boost CD, meanwhile, are an on-board computer and a two-line display in the Centre Speedo.

The radio MINI Visual Boost and MINI navigation system link up with a 6.5-inch, high-resolution colour display in the Centre Speedo and Bluetooth hands-free functionality including a USB audio interface. The maps for the MINI navigation system are stored on the car's built-in flash memory device. The USB audio interface allows mobile devices to be integrated into the car and functions supported by them to be activated and operated in customary MINI style via the car's display and the joystick on the centre console. These features include audio streaming via Bluetooth, display of album cover artwork and video files on the on-board monitor, and innovative office functions. Customers can also order a voice control system for the telephone and navigation functions. And an even more intense audio experience is available courtesy of the Harman Kardon hi-fi loudspeaker system with 10 loudspeakers and 640-watt amplifier.

Setting the benchmark in innovative in-car infotainment: MINI Connected.

Apple iPhone owners specifying the MINI Visual Boost radio or MINI navigation system can also access internet-based services inside the car courtesy of MINI Connected. A MINI Connected software application allows infotainment, driving fun and social network functions to be integrated into the system and operated using the in-car joystick, steering wheel buttons and on-board monitor. Adopting the familiar MINI display and operating logic, MINI Connected enables comfortable, simple, secure and intuitive control of all functions.

The Apple iPhone is linked into the car using either the Y adapter available from the MINI accessories range or the optional snap-in adapter, while the regularly updated MINI Connected App lays on an unmatched and constantly changing variety of functions, such as web radio, use of Facebook, Twitter and foursquare, Dynamic Music, Driving Excitement, Mission Control and the MINIMALISM Analyser.

Functional, sporty, unique: options and accessories allow detailed customisation.

Building on the wide variety of upholstery variants, interior trim options and Colour Lines, the range of optional equipment offers customers further appealing ideas when it comes to tailoring the exterior and interior of their MINI Paceman to their personal tastes. Just as the Chrome Line Interior option and anthracite-coloured roof liner bring eye-catching touches to the inside of the car, the Chrome Line Exterior, white indicator lights and white or black bonnet stripes perform a similar service for its outward appearance.

In addition, a bespoke range of accessories is available for the MINI Paceman from launch. The selection of items stretches from function elements for the Centre Rail, hard-wearing all-weather floor mats, MINI child seats and the tablet DVD system for rear-seat entertainment, to exterior and rear-view mirror caps and side indicator surrounds in various colour and design variants. Also on offer - in a bespoke composition for the MINI Paceman - is the John Cooper Works Tuning range tailored to hardcore, motor sport-inspired driving fun.

The main focus when developing the car has been to combine a comfortable genuine Volvo driving experience with a high level of power and handling. The Volvo T6 engine has been tuned to deliver a considerable increase in power and torque. This, in combination with a lowered, widened and reinforced chassis together with a tuned Haldex all-wheel drive system and Öhlins suspension makes the car suitable for both high performance driving and long distance travelling.

Robert Dahlgren, Volvo Polestar racing driver, comments the driving experience: “to me the Volvo S60 is a very well sorted car from start. In our concept car we have developed chassis, engine and transmission just like we want it, and the result is a huge leap forward in terms of handling and performance. It is, by far, the most impressive street Volvo I’ve ever driven. But I must also say that the genuine Volvo feeling is still there. “

The car presented at Gothenburg CityArena is the first car built for one specific client. A small series of Polestar modified S60s may be built pending market response;

“Polestar’s heart and soul is motorsport and our main focus is to deliver the absolute best results for Volvo on the track” say’s Christian Dahl. “But over the years we have also seen a significant increase in demand for Volvo performance cars and parts and naturally we want to respond to this.”

2012 Volvo XC60 Plug-in Hybrid Concept

2012 Volvo XC60 Plug-in Hybrid Concept

January 4, 2012. At the 2012 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Volvo Car Corporation will unveil an innovative gasoline plug-in hybrid. The Volvo XC60 Plug-in Hybrid Concept is an electric car, a highly economical hybrid and a powerful high-performance car all rolled into one. At the touch of a button, the driver decides how the available power from the combination of the high-performance gasoline engine and the electric motor is to be utilized.

"The technology in the XC60 Plug-in Hybrid Concept is as ingenious as it is unique," says Stefan Jacoby, President and CEO of Volvo Car Corporation. "You can make really green progress on the road without compromising on any of the luxury car's renowned properties. No other manufacturer has succeeded in delivering fuel economy and electrical range on this level in a capable, spacious performance car with 350 horsepower on tap."
"This world-class gasoline plug-in hybrid technology, featuring a state-of-the-art four-cylinder engine from our upcoming Volvo Environmental Architecture engine family, will reach our American showrooms in a couple of years. However, it is too early to say which model will be the first to feature this solution," Stefan Jacoby says.
Pure Hybrid Power - three cars in one
The driver chooses the driving mode via three buttons on the instrument panel. The buttons give the car three distinct temperaments: Pure, Hybrid or Power.
•In Pure mode the car is powered solely by its electric motor as much as possible. The operational range is up to 35 miles (charge depleting range, U.S certification driving cycle) with zero tailpipe emissions in urban traffic. The range according to the European certification driving cycle NEDC is 45 km.
•Hybrid mode is the standard setting whenever the car is started. The gasoline engine and electric motor cooperate to provide maximum driving pleasure with minimum environmental impact. According to the European certification driving cycle NEDC, CO2 emissions are 53 g/km (2.3 l/100 km) - which translates into fuel economy of over 100 mpg. Using the U.S certification standards, which include emissions from the production of the electric energy, the combined fuel economy in continuous driving is 50 mpg. The car has a total operating range of up to 600 miles (960 km).
•In Power mode, the technology is optimized to create maximum possible power. The gasoline engine with 280 hp and 380 Nm (280 lb.-ft.) is combined with the electric motor with 70 hp and 200 Nm (148 lb.-ft.). The electric motor's instant torque delivery contributes to the car's acceleration from 0 to 60 mph in 5.8 seconds (0-100 km/h in 6.1 seconds).
Four cylinders with the same power as a six-cylinder unit
The front wheels of the Volvo XC60 Plug-in Hybrid Concept are powered by a four-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine from the forthcoming VEA (Volvo Environmental Architecture) engine family. This engine produces 280 horsepower and maximum torque of 380 Nm (280 lb.-ft.). Power delivery to the wheels comes via a newly developed eight-speed automatic transmission.
"In the XC60 Plug-in Hybrid Concept we demonstrate that our forthcoming four-cylinder engines offer the same high performance as today's sixes. At the same time, their fuel consumption will be lower than in current four-cylinder engines," says Peter Mertens, Senior Vice President Research & Development at Volvo Car Corporation.
The concept car carries a "T8" badge, which emphasizes the combined 350 horsepower of the high-performance four-cylinder engine and the electric motor. This moves the car into territory previously occupied solely by eight-cylinder engines.
"It's time to stop counting cylinders," Peter Mertens says. "Four-cylinder engines are the most effective way to quickly reduce CO2 emissions and fuel consumption without compromising customer expectations when it comes to driving pleasure and performance."
Reduction of parts, weight and fuel consumption
VEA is a modular range of diesel and gasoline engines. The gasoline versions come with direct injection, minimized internal losses and balance shafts for maximized comfort.
Several levels of turbocharging open up for flexibility that encompasses the whole range from high power and torque variants to extremely fuel-efficient derivatives. In order to cover all customer requirements, certain engines will gain added performance via hybrid drive or other spearhead technology.
The modular format is based on a standard of 500cc (30 cubic inches) per cylinder for optimum thermodynamics. It could also be used to develop three-cylinder engines. VEA offers several advantages
•The number of unique parts is reduced. This promotes manufacturing efficiency, quality assurance and efficiency of new development projects.
•The new powertrains are considerably lighter than present engines with similar performance.
•Fuel economy is improved by up to 35 percent compared to engines with similar performance.
•Modularity and compact transverse design are also ideal for future electrification developments.
Integrated Starter Generator
The engine in the Volvo XC60 Plug-in Hybrid Concept has no conventional starter motor or alternator. Instead, there is an Integrated Starter motor and Generator (ISG) connected to the crankshaft, which is located between the engine and the transmission. The ISG is capable of delivering an extra 34 kW (45 hp) during acceleration. It also charges the battery during braking.
Charge the battery at home
The rear axle of the Volvo XC60 Plug-in Hybrid Concept is driven by an electric motor producing 70 horsepower. It is supplied with power from a 12 kWh lithium-ion battery pack installed under the floor of the load compartment.
The battery pack is recharged from a regular power outlet, at home or at a parking place. Recharging time varies with the current. If 220V is available a full charge with 12A takes just 3.5 hours. With 110V/12A a full charge takes 7.5 hours.
It is also possible while recharging the car to heat or cool the passenger compartment in order to make the start of the journey more comfortable. This also means that more battery power is available to propel the car.
Constantly online
The Volvo Sensus infotainment system in the XC60 Plug-in Hybrid Concept keeps the driver constantly updated on everything that makes the journey simpler, more efficient and more entertaining. A few examples of available information:
•Best route to the destination depending on whether the driver prioritizes low energy consumption, the fastest route or the shortest distance.
•Low Emission Zones where sufficient capacity is needed for running on pure electricity.
•Charging stations with access to renewable electricity.
•Locations along the route with access to quick-charging facilities.
Mobile application
The driver also can connect to the car via a mobile phone application. This offers convenient access to a wide range of data, such as the battery's charge level, remaining range, and the location and capacity of the nearest recharging station. Via the app, it is possible to verify if the charger cable is hooked up and it is also possible to pre-program the car's interior climate.
"Creating an intuitive driver's environment that always gives you access to updated, useful information is an important part of our product development. This includes that you should be as updated when the car is parked as when you're behind the wheel," says Stefan Jacoby.
Muscular appearance
The Volvo XC60 Plug-in Hybrid Concept is painted in a special white color and the 21-inch wheels enhance the muscular appearance. The interior features unique detailing and colors, such as sober dark-blue leather upholstery and inlays of blue-grey wood.
The instruments have been tailored to give the driver all the necessary information about petrol and electricity consumption, battery charge level, remaining range and so on.
Electric four-wheel drive
The electric four-wheel drive in the Volvo XC60 Plug-in Hybrid Concept is activated by pressing the AWD (All Wheel Drive) button. Instead of the mechanical power transfer of conventional four-wheel drive, the central control unit distributes power between the gasoline-driven front wheels and the electrically driven rear axle.
The electric four-wheel drive system has been designed to provide better traction when starting and when driving on slippery roads, for instance in snow or mud.
Saves battery power for later
The driver can choose to save battery power for later in order to drive on pure electricity later in, for example, an urban green zone or in the heart of a city. When Save is activated, the generator charges and tops up the battery pack if necessary. The aim is to ensure sufficient battery power for about 12 miles (20 km) of driving on electricity.

Wiesmann GT MF5

 Wiesmann GT MF5

August 21, 2011. Every body remains at a state of rest unless forced to change as a result of external forces. In order not to stand still, we inevitably have to move. And anyone entrusted with a Wiesmann MF5 in this moment can turn physics into sheer pleasure. After all, this roadster is a powerful combination of power and style, and every encounter with the MF5 Roadster or GT MF5 becomes an unforgettable experience.
"In the MF5, we have developed the most powerful model in a series of classic sports cars in terms of design and technology. The secure aluminium monocoque, the extremely low weight, the powerful engine and the exclusive details pave the way for pure driving pleasure, which is exactly what we had in mind”
Friedhelm Wiesmann

Wiesmann GT MF5,

The end of the curve debate
In maths a curve is a one-dimensional object that generally has a curve. In the GT MF5 a curve means three-dimensional driving pleasure. This sports car takes bends as they come: Masterfully and without debate.
It’s only a shame that Wiesmann doesn’t make roads as well.
The Interior
Instant mood enhancement
Is there any other sports car that amplifies driving pleasure quite so rapidly as the GT MF5? Probably not – which is why we don’t just refer to the car’s extraordinary dynamics. The cockpit design, too, is an impressive mood enhancer. Not least because you in the driving seat when it comes to choosing the leather, materials and manufacturing variants.

2013 Vauxhall Adam

2013 Vauxhall Adam

November 6, 2012. Vauxhall Adam, the stylish urban-chic newcomer, is poised to take the fashion-led A-sector by storm when it arrives in the UK in early 2013. With over a million different specification and trim combinations, Adam introduces unprecedented levels of personalisation into this style conscious segment, giving every customer the chance to create a truly bespoke Adam reflecting their individual style and personality.
The all-new funky three-door hatchback measures 3.70 metres in length and 1.72 metres in width, seats four people comfortably, and is Vauxhall's first entrant into a segment which has grown by 30 per cent since 2000. Adam continues Vauxhall's rapid product offensive which will see four incremental segment introductions in just 18 months (Ampera, Mokka, Adam and upcoming Cascada). Keenly positioned within the segment, prices range from £11,255 (Adam JAM 1.2-litre 70PS) up to £14,000 (Adam SLAM 1.4-litre 100PS).
2013 Vauxhall Adam,

2013 Vauxhall Adam,

2013 Vauxhall Adam,

2013 Vauxhall Adam,

2013 Vauxhall Adam,

Personalisation begins with the selection of one of three trim levels - Adam JAM (fashionable/colourful) - Adam GLAM (elegant/sophisticated) and Adam SLAM (racy/sporty). The next level of customisation comes with the addition of option packs, and from here the possibilities are virtually endless, with the choice of 12 body colours, 15 seat designs, 20 alloy wheel styles, three printed headliners and no less than 18 interior décor panels, to mention just a few.
Ground breaking customisation is matched with forward thinking technology introductions. Exclusive to Adam, IntelliLink, the new on-board infotainment system, integrates the owner's smartphone (Android and Apple iOS) with the car, making internet based applications available on the facia mounted touch screen. Other features include a new-generation Park Assist that automatically parks the car, a Side Blind Spot Alert and a power steering system including a 'light touch' CITY mode.
"Thanks to its striking design and class-leading technologies, Adam will attract young and young-at-heart customers from both genders," said Vauxhall Marketing Director Peter Hope. "These customers have attitude and want their cars to reflect their personality. They are fashion conscious and place great value on individuality; they don't just follow trends, they create them."
Adam will not only reach out to loyal Vauxhall customers, it will also attract those who had not previously considered the brand with more than half of the predicted sales coming from new customers. Typically for a car of this type the majority of sales (80 per cent) will be to private buyers, however thanks to its unique tailoring potential it is also expected to become a statement vehicle in the business car arena for companies wishing to strengthen their brand.
Adam arrives at a key point in Vauxhall's product offensive. Since 2008, Vauxhall has completely reshaped its model line-up, starting with the flagship Insignia, continuing with its major volume models, and now entering new segments with the Ampera (extended range electric car), the Mokka (small SUV), and the upcoming Cascada (full-size convertible).
"Adam is yet another example of not just a new Vauxhall, but one that takes us into a new market sector," said Duncan Aldred, Vauxhall's Chairman and Managing Director. "With Ampera and Mokka, that makes three such cars this year, and next year we'll see the Cascada convertible, too. This is a new chapter in Vauxhall's 110 year history, and we're confident that it will introduce a fresh audience to the brand."

DESIGN

Unlike other rivals in the segment, the Vauxhall Adam bucks the trend and moves away from retro-based design opting instead for a fresh striking execution with a clear focus on innovation, personalisation and quality.

Malcolm Ward, Vauxhall/Opel Design Director said: "There was an outstanding 'can do' spirit and vibrant energy within the team when we created Adam; it's amazing to see so many of the original ideas generated in the early creative phase making it into production. Thanks to this incredibly fresh and audacious approach, Adam can be personalised more than any car in the segment with virtually unlimited exterior and interior colour, fabric, décor and wheel combination possibilities."

Everything about the Vauxhall Adam's design is deliberate, reflecting individuality and premium quality. For example the eye-catching 'floating' roof is visually disconnected from the body; not only is this a stunning design feature it also allows the perfect execution of two-tone colour combinations, a key focus for exterior customisation.

Moving to the name badge, normally you would find this on the rear of the car but with Adam it is positioned at the end of the chrome 'signature' window moulding on the rear pillar adding to its unique appeal. State of the art LED lights are also found at both the front and rear - a first in the fashion-led A-sector adding to Adam's premium feel.

Undoubtedly fresh and new, Adam clearly retains Vauxhall's award winning sculptural design DNA. The blade featured in the lower door and the crisp 'shock wave' around the handles is reminiscent of the Astra GTC; the wing-shaped chrome grille bar reflects New Astra and the headlamps featuring wing-shaped daytime running lights are also typical Vauxhall design features.

Inside the cabin the premium feel continues to deliver on Adam's upmarket exterior promise. Sculptured harmonious surfaces and graceful flowing lines, synonymous with Vauxhall Adam's bigger brothers the Insignia, Meriva and Astra, complement the all new premium clock-like instrument displays and chrome bezeled switches.

INDIVIDUALISATION - EXTERIOR

Adam's three trim levels - JAM (fashionable /colourful), GLAM (elegant/sophisticated) and SLAM (racy/sporty) are merely the starting point for a high degree of personalisation.

Customers then have the choice of 12 uniquely named body colours, such as 'I'll be Black', 'Papa don't Peach', 'Purple Fiction', 'James Blonde', 'Saturday White Fever' and 'Buzz Lightgreen'.

Next comes Adam's roof: this can be given the same colour as the body or for a more contrasting look customers can choose from one of three finishes - glossy 'I'll be Black', light cream 'White my Fire' or the dark and rich 'Men in Brown'. A large glass sunroof can also be specified on Adam JAM and Adam SLAM and comes as standard on Adam GLAM and is available in combination with all exterior colours.

For those wishing to sharpen their Vauxhall Adam a little further, three option packs are available for each trim level: two-tone 'Black' or 'White Pack'; flamboyant 'Twisted Pack'; or the bold 'Extreme Pack'. The 'Black Pack' offers extra elegance with the roof, exterior mirrors and rims all stylishly finished in black, with the 'White Pack' offering the same effect but with a white finish. The 'Twisted Pack' shines with colourful exterior mirrors, grille bar, rims and interior décor. This finish is green or red on Adam JAM, brown or red on Adam GLAM and red on Adam SLAM. The Extreme pack makes the car absolutely unmistakable with eye-catching wheels and bold designs on the mirrors, grille bar paintwork and interior décor

And for those wishing to go further still there is a choice of three different decal packages: 'Splat' for the Adam JAM; 'fly' for the Adam GLAM; and 'Stripes' for the Adam SLAM. These can be applied to the mirrors, side and rear of the car. Even Adam'S key is down to personal choice, and is coloured to match the body colour of the car.

Moving to the wheels, in total Vauxhall Adam is offered with the choice of 20 different wheel designs and colours in sizes ranging for 16" to 18". Rims such as 'Vintage' and 'Horns' offer a classic look while, 'Boomerang', 'Hurricane', 'Turbine' and 'Twister' turn heads with more unconventional contemporary designs.

In keeping with Adam's core values even after the customer has taken the car home some of the 18inch wheel designs can be changed again and again with the application of interchangeable coloured clips. Available in six different coloured sets the clips lock onto the five spokes of the rim. These can be the same colour of the body or can be mixed and matched for a more vibrant look, and if customers become bored, they can simply change them. Vauxhall is the first manufacturer to offer this unique design feature.

INDIVIDUALISATION - INTERIOR

Vauxhall Adam's cabin, if anything, has an even higher potential for personalisation than its exterior, so this section simply provides a broad overview of just some of the highlights.

There is a choice of four base colours: Black, Cocoa, Purple and White. These combine with 15 different seat trims which are offered in a broad choice of materials and colours.

Customers can then choose one of 18 different décor panels for the facia and doors surrounds. These panels can be ordered separately meaning that, like the wheel clips, Vauxhall Adam's interior can be constantly tailored to suit the changing taste of the owner, or subsequent owners. Among the 18 panels, 11 are painted to complement the exterior colour, eight are covered with a premium foil featuring decorative patterns of which two 'Silver Fireflies' and 'Gold Fireflies' are backlit by LED's giving a soft glowing appearance - another industry first for Vauxhall.

This exclusive design element is combined with the ambient lighting package which illuminates the door pockets, centre console and passenger footwell. As part of this package, seven different coloured lighting settings can be selected at the touch of a button. Owners have the freedom to pick just one of the eight colours which include red, two amber tones, yellow, green, blue, ice blue and white to light the cabin. If they can't decide, they can switch the setting to continuously change through the spectrum of colours. Again this underscores Adam's virtually unlimited potential for personalisation.

Inside the cabin roof can also be customised to suit every taste. Thanks to yet another industry first the roof can be tailored with the application of printed headliners, one of which is backlit by LED's.

Three motifs are available 'Sky' showing blue skies and white clouds, 'fly' giving the appearance of failing autumn leaves and 'Go' a chequered flag design. 'Starlight', the final roof headliner and by far the most spectacular, is illuminated by 64 LED lights giving the impression of a starry night sky. This stunning feature is something normally only seen on the world's most expensive limousines and is an absolute first within the segment.

FORWARD THINKING TECHNOLOGY

Vauxhall Adam's innovative personalisation solutions are matched by its forward-thinking technology introductions. Bringing many qualities from the upper segments in to the fashion-led A-segment for the first time Adam is not only a head turner it is also highly intelligent!

Adam's biggest technology highlight is 'IntelliLink', an all-new infotainment system which connects the owners smartphone (Apple iOS and Android) with the car making Vauxhall Adam the best connected car on the market.

The IntelliLink infotainment system brings content from a smartphone onto the cars seven-inch, high resolution, full colour touch-screen display. Connectivity is provided via USB or Bluetooth for mass storage devices, including MP3 players, iPod, iPad, etc. The system, which is the first of its kind compatible with both Apple iOS and Andriod applications, enables personal playlists, photo galleries, phone books, other stored media and data to be accessed easily via the touch-screen in the car. Videos and personalised slide shows can also be viewed on the screen when Adam is stationary.

Thanks to the smartphone link owners will also be able to access internet-based approved apps via the IntelliLink touch screen. Apps such as Stitcher, the global podcast internet radio that lets users listen to programs live or after they have been broadcast, and BringGo a navigation app which offers maps for Western and Eastern Europe, will be available from launch with further apps coming later.

Highly intuitive, the IntelliLink system not only looks great but is easy to use. Five main menus can be accessed via the touch screen:

Audio: The user can choose between AM/FM/DAB radio or his/her own personal playlists contained in the smartphone or storage device. IntelliLink uses the Gracenote music organisation for USB music devices which provides song information and album art. Gracenote is resident in the radio memory.

Telephone: Hands-free phone calls can be made without dialling: the driver can select a name from the stored directory featuring up to 1,000 contacts visible on the touch-screen, touch the 'call' function and project the call through the vehicle's speakers.

Gallery: Personal photo galleries, slide shows, videos and other stored documents can also be accessed easily via USB connection (and Aux-in for videos for iOS Smartphones) and viewed when Adam is stationary. Visuals naturally appear on the 7-inch touch-screen and sound comes from the car's speakers.

Apps: Apps stored in the smartphone enhance IntelliLink's capabilities. At launch, the BringGo navigation App and Stitcher, an app allowing access to radio podcasts, will be available (further information below). Further apps will be available at a later stage.

Car settings: The basic car settings are also accessible and can be modified via IntelliLink: language (23 languages are available), time, date, radio settings (volume, balance, fader, etc…) and connection settings can be controlled according to the driver's individual tastes. In addition, information about climate control and Park Assist systems are also displayed on IntelliLink's 7-inch screen.

Selected apps that are compatible for smartphones using both Android and Apple iOS operating systems can be downloaded from the internet. For example, the BringGo navigation system will soon be available from the App Store and can be downloaded as a map version for Eastern and Western Europe. Once the app has been downloaded, the map data remains installed on the smartphone. This means that owners do not need a broadband connection to use BringGo and therefore do not need to pay any roaming fees while abroad.

As BringGo always remains on the phone owners will also have the added benefit of continued guidance should they wish to complete journeys by foot or bike. A further benefit comes in the system's ability to connect to internet search engines. For example, if an Adam owner wanted to find a restaurant or hotel, they can just run a name search on the search engine and the results will then be automatically displayed on the BringGo map.

Another useful App which will be offered for IntelliLink is Stitcher, a global podcast internet radio that lets users listen to programs live or after they have been broadcast. Once Stitcher is downloaded onto the smartphone, Adam's owner can access more than 10,000 podcasts on demand, radio shows and live stations around the world via the IntelliLink touch-screen.

Available at the affordable price of just £275 the state of the art IntelliLink is option on all Adams with the standard infotainment kit containing CD / DAB Radio and Bluetooth connectivity. For those needing the ultimate sound experience an infinity sound system offering eight speakers including five 45 watt units and a 90 Watt subwoofer is also available.

Another debut for Adam is Advanced Park Assist II, a system which has never been seen before in a Vauxhall production car. Drivers engage the system with a button on the dashboard and it tells them when they reach a parking space large enough to accommodate the car. The system then automatically steers them into the parking space, with the driver only needing to control the brake, clutch and gears. APA II uses ultrasonic sensors to work its magic, and always comes in combination with Side Blind Spot Alert (SBSA).

Vauxhall Adam's electrical power steering system also benefits from a dedicated CITY mode which at the flick of a switch increases power assistance at lower speeds. Offered as standard across the range this will be particularly useful in busy urban environments. Also standard is a comprehensive ESP plus system with functions such as Hill Start Assist and Cruise control with a speed limiter, allowing the driver to set a maximum speed. Optional features not usually found in this sector include a heated steering wheel and automatic dimming rear view mirror. Also Vauxhall's clever Flex-Fix bike carrier is available on Adam. The system which is integrated into the car's bumper pulls out when needed to securely carry a bike weighing up to 30kg; an additional clip can also be purchased to allow a second bike of up to 20kg to be carried if required.

Vauxhall Adam is not only stylish, innovative and intelligent it is also safe and comfortable. Passengers in Adam are protected by a very rigid passenger cell that is mainly fabricated from high-strength steel. They benefit from newly engineered front seats with excellent comfort and safety performance and are protected by a comprehensive airbag system comprising two front, two thorax/pelvis side and two head curtain airbags.

With its chassis geared towards agile driving dynamics, the Vauxhall Adam is not just at home on city streets but also on country roads. The compact wheelbase of 2,311mm is combined with an impressively wide tread of 1,472mm in the front and 1,464mm in the rear giving Adam its solid stance on the road and excellent stability.

The chassis - with MacPherson struts at the front and compound crank at the rear - was developed for crisp agility and optimal handling in the city without making any compromises in the country road driving dynamics. UK Adam's will also benefit from a UK-specific steering system which has been tuned specifically for the UK roads.

At the same time, Vauxhall Adam's low center of gravity makes it grip the road, especially in tight curves. Dampers were tuned to the challenges of city driving. Wheel sizes range from 16" to 18", and cars that are specified with 17" or 18" rims come standard with a more tensed Sport chassis which delivers an even crisper steering feeling.

ENGINES

Vauxhall Adam is initially offered with three efficient petrol engines - 1.2-litre 70PS, 1.4-litre 87PS and 1.4-litre 100PS. All are mated to a five-speed manual transmission and can be specified with an ecoFLEX technology pack that further enhances their efficiency. The 1.4-litre units provide maximum torque of 130Nm at 4,000 rpm; the 100PS version accelerates from 0- 60mph in just 11.5 seconds and has a top speed of 115mph. The ecoFLEX technology pack includes a Start/Stop system with a high-performance battery, heavy-duty starter, optimised generator and an 'eco' switch allowing its activation or de-activation; in addition, it also features an Eco Drive Assistant that monitors energy consumption and indicates when to shift up. The Ecoflex's 16" wheels and special low-rolling resistance tyres complete the package and help the Adam achieve exceptional frugality in the combined cycle. The Adam 1.2 ecoFLEX has fuel consumption of 56.5mpg with CO2 emissions as low as 118 g/km while both 1.4 ecoFLEX models consume 55.4mpg and have emissions of just 119 g/km.

Vauxhall is also developing a new generation small petrol engine that will premiere in the Adam later in its life. This all-aluminum unit will feature direct injection, turbocharging and Start/Stop technologies for further enhanced efficiency and performance. It will be combined with an all-new generation six-speed manual transmission.

2013 Toyota Corolla Levin ZR

2013 Toyota Corolla Levin ZR
October 18, 2012. The 11th generation of the world's best-selling car introduces substantial gains to overall performance as well as enhancing Corolla's DNA of quality, durability and reliability.
New Corolla delivers more power and better on-road dynamics while fuel consumption and emissions have been lowered across the range.
While improving Corolla's standard equipment at every level, Toyota has reduced prices on three grades - Ascent, Ascent Sport and Levin SX - while holding prices on the luxury Levin ZR.
The entry price for the new Corolla Ascent hatch has been sharpened by $1,000 to just $19,990* - the best recommended retail price among small-car competitors from Mazda, Ford, Holden, Hyundai and Volkswagen.

Toyota Australia's executive director sales and marketing Matthew Callachor said the new range reflects Toyota's determination to engineer more appealing, dynamically engaging cars.
"Corolla is an incredible success story with more than 1.2 million sold in this country," Mr Callachor said.
"It has created a unique presence in the Australian psyche as the best-selling Toyota in Australia while developing a brand image of great importance with its long-established reputation for quality, durability and reliability," he said.
"The new Corolla hatch will build on that heritage with performance, style, quality and value that will excite a new generation of buyers."
"It delivers the European styling and advanced technology demanded by today's small-car buyers - whether they are young singles or couples, 'empty nesters' or families needing an extra car."
"Improvements in every aspect of the new-generation Corolla will underpin further sales success."
Australian Corollas are fitted with a revised 1.8-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that develops more power at 103kW.
At the same time, engine enhancements, aerodynamic improvements, weight management and chassis tuning have contributed to dynamic and efficiency gains across the range.
A new seven-speed MultiDrive S-CVT transmission provides a seamless automatic shift mode or a sequential, stepped seven-speed Sport mode.
It helps lower fuel consumption and emissions by more than 10 per cent to as low as 6.6 litres/100km** and 152g/km of CO2 on the combined cycle** - better even than the six-speed manual.
In automatic mode, the system is optimised for quietness and fuel economy, matching the transmission to the engine at all times by monitoring accelerator pedal angle, vehicle speed and braking force.
In Sport mode, the system is optimised for response and direct engine control with close-ratio upshifts and a direct downshift feeling for precise cornering control under braking and deceleration.
Every Corolla comes with seven airbags, vehicle stability control, traction control, anti-skid brakes, six-speaker audio, cruise control, Bluetooth™^ connectivity, air-conditioning and seatbelt warning alarm for all five seats.
Corolla has a five-star ANCAP safety rating.
Pricing has been reduced for the Ascent Sport by $1,500 and for Levin SX by $1,100 despite the addition of substantial extra equipment. Levin models now have 17-inch alloy wheels.
Top-of-the-range Corolla Levin ZR maintains its price even though it gains HID headlamps with adaptive front lighting and automatic high beam. It also has the option of a new Skyview™ panoramic roof.
Although Corolla has been a mainstay of the Japanese car industry, the latest model also benefits from extensive research and evaluation in Europe.
Toyota's focus on European buying preferences - which are broadly similar to Australian tastes - has delivered edgier styling.
New Corolla displays the more confident and agile face of Toyota with a low, sloping bonnet and reduced overall height that accentuate the hatch's sleeker, more streamlined appearance.
Its Euro-inspired exterior design combines smooth-flowing surfaces with sweeping character lines to provide the sense of agility expected in the small hatch segment.
The resulting aerodynamic benefits contribute to improved fuel efficiency and driving dynamics.
A lighter yet more rigid body shell and revised suspension, steering and seating position offer a more comfortable and engaging drive.
These measures have resulted in a lower centre of gravity that improves high-speed stability and cornering agility.
A spacious and appealing interior benefits from the adoption of high-quality materials and smart packaging that liberates more space for occupants and their luggage.
The interior offers more space and greater comfort for occupants with an emphasis on improved sensory quality and the use of lighting, font, colour and finish to provide a more premium feel.
There is more knee room for rear passengers, a longer cargo floor and increased luggage capacity.
The cabin is noticeably quieter with extensive soundproofing to reduce engine and road noise.
Corolla's MacPherson strut front suspension has been revised while front and rear springs and shock absorbers have been fine-tuned for ride comfort, improved stability and excellent steering response.
A lower hip point and steering-column angle create a more engaging driving position.
The electric power steering is more direct to provide greater response with better feedback and greater agility.
Corolla is the world's best-selling vehicle with more than 39 million Corollas sold in over 140 countries since the first-generation car was introduced in Japan in 1966.
Australia was the first destination for Corolla exports and quickly established itself as Toyota's most popular model in this country.
Local Corolla sales last year totalled just over 36,000. Sales to the end of September this year have exceeded 28,000 - 11.7 per cent more than at the same stage last year.
Corolla, like all new Toyota vehicles, is covered by Toyota Service Advantage with a capped price of $130 for each of up to six scheduled logbook services in the first three years or 60,000km.

The novelties for the Alfa 159 and Alfa 159 Sportwagon

The novelties for the Alfa 159 and Alfa 159 Sportwagon

February 26, 2007. The 159 saloon and Sportwagon return to Geneva, with a number of novelties in terms of outfits, equipment and engines. To start with, the new TI (Turismo Internazionale) sports versions make their debut. This was the name that Alfa Romeo used in the Seventies to distinguish cars with particularly lavish outfits. Today these two simple but glorious letters reappear on the Alfa 159, and offer equipment that includes a low set-up, exclusive 19” alloys, sideskirts, and sporty instrumentation and interiors. Both cars have three-layer 8C Red paintwork and black leather interiors; the first is a saloon equipped with the 260 bhp 3.2 V6 Q4 engine, while the Sportwagon is powered by the 200 bhp 2.4 JTDM.

The Geneva ‘catwalk’ will also host a 210 bhp Alfa 159 Sportwagon 2.4 JTDM with the Q4 system and a 260 bhp Alfa 159 3.2 V6 Q4 with the 6-speed ‘Q-Tronic’ gearbox, on which the sophisticated Blue&MeTM Nav system makes its debut, with new telematic services that are accessed by dedicated key: from emergency calls to requests for information of personal interest, but also the offer of insurance policies at advantageous conditions.
The four cars on display obviously present the lavish equipment of the different specifications: from luxurious Poltrona Frau® ‘pieno fiore’ leather upholstery to a tri-zone climate system, electric seats and Cruise Control, 7 airbags, the VDC system with a Hill holder, parking sensors, a radio navigator with maps and a voice control telephone.
